Making Connections
In the last three years (2018 - 2021) many Kozal family connections have been made, most notably the connection to our Polish ancestors who left for France and Germany before World War I . This family starts with the progenitors, Jan Celer and Maryanna Pietruszka of the village of Trzemeszno near Rozdrazew, whose daughter Katarzyna Celer first married Sebastian Kozal from Trzemeszno in the Catholic parish of Rozdrazew and gave birth to six children. Among Katarzyna and Sebastian's six children was their daughter Katarzyna Kozal, the link between the Polish, French, and German Kozal families. Unfortunately, Sebastian Kozal died sometime before 1776, leaving Katarzyna (Celer) Kozal with six children. In 1776, the widow Katarzyna (Celer) Kozal married a widower named Grzegorz Kozal of Trzemeszno in the Catholic Parish of Rozdrazew. Grzegorz helped to care for Katarzyna's six children, and together they had two sons of their own - Kazimierz and Franciszek. It was Kazimierz (Katarzyna the younger's half-brother) that is the connection to the American Kozal family.
Katarzyna Kozal, the daughter of Katarzyna and Sebastian Kozal, married Bartlomiej Kaczmarek, who adopted the Kozal surname upon marriage. Katarzyna and Bartlomiej Kozal had many children, but it was their daughter Marianna Kozal that gave rise to the Kozal families in France and Germany. Marianna Kozal married Jakub Chadryszak (also called Jakub Chadrych or Jakub Hadrych), and he also took on the surname of his wife. They too had several children. Among their children was Feliks Kozal, who married Jadwiga Kempinska. Together they also had several children. Among their children were Walenty Kozal and Franciszek Kozal. Walenty Kozal gave rise to the French Kozal family of Harnes, and Franciszek Kozal gave rise to the German Kozal family of Berlin.
Walenty Kozal married Konstancja Wysocka. It was Walenty and Konstancja Kozal who emigrated first to Castrop-Rauxel, Germany and then on to Harnes, France. Together they had eight children. One of those eight children was Bernhard Kozal who resided in Bruay en Artois and Savy Berlette, respectively. Bernhard Kozal married Suzanne Delhaye and had several children including Felix Kozal and Simon Kozal. Felix Kozal married Marie-Ange Alice Lancel and had two children, Julian Kozal and Romain Kozal, with whom I am in regular contact. Simon Kozal also married and had two children, Emmanuel and Sonia Kozal, with whom I am also in contact.
